UNSTOPPABLE! Manchester City wins their 4th Premier League in a row!

  • Following Manchester City’s win over West Ham, they have been crowned English champions.
  • It’s the 4th season in a row when they manage to win this title, being the only club in history to do so.

During matchday 38, the last one of the current Premier League season, Manchester City lifted the trophy. They won their match at home against West Ham through Phil Foden’s (23 years old) double and the final goal of Rodri (27 years old). At the same time, second-placed Arsenal also won their home game against Everton, but it was not enough to cover the 2-point gap the Citizens had over them. Therefore, Pep Guardiola’s (53 years old) team became the first team to win the Premier League 4 times in a row.

Pep’s legacy

This amazing achievement made many football lovers all over the globe to wonder if the debate about the best manager of all time is over. Many fans consider Pep Guardiola not only the best manager in English football, but in the history of the sport! The question is, how can one really argue with them, when we take a look at Pep’s incredible stats. During his 7 full seasons at Manchester City, he won the Premier League 6 times, being interrupted from an impressive run only by Jürgen Klopp’s (56 years old) Liverpool during the 2019-2020 season. He also won 2 FA Cups, 4 Carabao Cups, 2 Community Shields, and the club’s first ever Champions League and UEFA Super Cup. When asked about a possible departure at the title celebration, he confirmed that he is most likely going to continue managing City next year too, when his contract expires.

During these years, the strongest English teams were, of course, Manchester City and Liverpool. Their manager, Jürgen Klopp, is leaving at the end of the season. The rivalry between the 2 incredible managers was always there in the Premier League, but undoubtedly they respected each other very much. This was confirmed once again at the celebration press conference, where Pep got emotional about Klopp’s departure, thanking him for always pushing him to be better as a manger.

A star-studded team

The success of City is not only because the tactical masterclass of Pep Guardiola, but also because of his team, which has well-established stars in every position on the pitch. For example, Ederson (30 years old), who is known to be one of the best goalkeepers of the modern era of football, has 13 clean sheets and almost 70% save percentage this season.

Defensively speaking, Rúben Dias (27 years old) was their best with under 0.9 goals conceded per match in 45 games, without any red card.

In the midfield, there was a battle of who has the most assists between Kevin De Bruyne (32 years old), Bernardo Silva (29 years old) and Rodri (27 years old). Despite playing in only 25 games, De Bruyne still managed to get 17 assists, more than any of his teammates.

Up front, they had one of the undisputed best strikers in the world, who also won the Golden Boot in England, Erling Haaland (23 years old), with 38 goals this year. We also can’t forget about Phil Foden (23 years old), who had 37 goal contributions, or Julian Alvarez (24 years old), who played the most matches, 51!
