- Paris Saint-Germain benefited from Monaco’s mistake that sealed their 12th French League trophy.
- PSG have the most League 1 trophies in history, while Saint-Étienne have 2 less, but are currently in the second division.
During matchday 31 of the Ligue 1 season, PSG faced relegation-threatened side Le Havre at their home stadium, the Parc des Princes. Somehow, the game ended 3-3, even though the away team only had 23% ball possession. If the Parisians won, they could have started to celebrate their title earlier.
The party started just one day later when second-place side Monaco lost 3-2 to Lyon.
That meant that mathematically it would be impossible for Monaco or other teams to catch up to PSG, even though there are 3 more matches to be played, because they distanced themselves from the rest by 12 points. This trophy is the 50th they won in their history of 54 years.
One down, two to go!
Even though PSG have already won the Ligue 1 title, they could go all the way and finish the season with a treble. They will face Lyon in the Coupe de France final, which they have won 14 times before, holding the record for the most trophies in this competition.
Last but certainly not least, the trophy that Paris Saint-Germain are dreaming of and that they have never won, the Champions League. They are currently in the semifinals and will face off against Borussia Dortmund for a spot in the final.
If they manage to reach it, their rivals could either be Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.
Mbappe can’t stop scoring!
Kylian Mbappé (25 years old) is currently the top scorer of the Ligue 1, with 26 goals and 7 assists. If he finishes the season as top scorer, which he probably will, it would be the 6th consecutive season he achieves this.
This stat is incredible as is, but considering that he is only 25 years old, we can clearly see why people consider him the leader of the new generation of talented footballers.
Some sources indicate that the Mbappé-Real transfer saga will finally end this summer when his contract with PSG runs out. It is no surprise that the Frenchman wishes to end up at Madrid, because not only it would be a dream come true, but it would also help his career, playing in a stronger league with better teammates and better chances to win that Champions League trophy.
The coincidence is that both PSG and Real Madrid are favorites to win their semifinal match-ups in the Champions League, which could see Mbappé helping to beat his future club in an incredible final.
