- Real Madrid won against Real Sociedad, thanks to the goal of Arda Güler (19 years old).
- Los Blancos are leaders of the LaLiga by a massive lead.
During matchday 31 of the LaLiga, Real Madrid faced Real Sociedad away from home.
Even though Sociedad had more ball possession, the match was won by the Madridistas, through the goal of Turkish youngster Arda Güler, who was in the starting eleven for the first time.
These 3 points are very important, as they represent a big step towards their 36th LaLiga title.
The Turkish Wonderkid
Carlo Ancelotti bought young midfielder Arda Güler in the summer, before the current season.
He came from Fenerbahçe for €20M and represents the newest addition to the young generation of midfielders that will replace the great positions where Modric (38 years old), Kroos (34 years old), and Casemiro (32 years old) played and won 5 Champions League titles in a relatively short period of time.
Güler is still the youngest, in comparison with Tchouaméni (24 years old), Valverde (25 years old), Camavinga (21 years old), Brahim Diaz (24 years old) and Bellingham (20 years old).
- POLL: Who is the best young midfielder at Real Madrid? Valverde/Tchouaméni/Diaz/Camavinga/Bellingham/Güler
It’s safe to say that the Madrid board was very impressed by this talented youngster. Back in his Fenerbahçe days, he managed to score 9 times and assist 7 times in 49 appearances in all competitions.
These stats may not sound so great that Real Madrid would be amazed by them, but let’s not forget that he was 17 years old!
Unfortunately, he was struck by a series of pretty serious injuries as soon as he joined the Spanish giants.
He missed over 100 days because of them, but now it seems that the young midfielder got over his health issues and is starting to display very satisfying football. It’s already his second goal for his new club in 6 appearances.
When can Los Blancos celebrate?
Even though Madrid is at the top of the LaLiga by a 13-point margin, the next two teams behind, Girona and their eternal rivals, Barcelona, are still mathematically in contention for the title race. It is very unlikely that any other team other than Real will win it in the end, but there is still a chance if they lose all of their remaining games against Cadiz, Granada, Alaves, Villareal, and Betis and the other teams win all of their games. As things stand, Los Blancos only need four more points to officially be crowned Spanish champions once again.
Is this the year of the historic 15?
Besides the LaLiga trophy, which Real almost got their hands on, they are also in the semifinals of the Champions League. They face Bayern Munich, while the other match consists of Borussia Dortmund and PSG.
On paper, Madrid looks the best out of the last 4, after they managed to eliminate the reigning champions, Manchester City, after 4-4 on aggregate and a heated penalty shootout. If they do win the Champions League it would be their 15th title, which would represent a historic moment, as no other team ever reached this number of trophies in the history of the competition.

Unfortunately, this season a treble is off the table because Real lost in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey in a fiery Madrid derby, against their neighbors, Atletico. In the end, the Spanish Cup was lifted by Athletic Bilbao, after a 2-1 win against tournament-surprize Mallorca.
Captain says farewell!
According to Marca, Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernandez (34 years old) has informed the club board he intends to leave the club at the end of the current season.
This was a decision he already had in mind, as he discussed this with the club, but in the end, he extended his contract for another year because he wanted to lift some more trophies before leaving the club he dedicated his whole adult career to.
Nacho has been part of the club for 13 years and captained the team for the last year, after the departure of Balon D’or winner Karim Benzema (36 years old) to Saudi side Al-Ittihad.
