NUMBER 20 for INTER Nerazzurri celebrate their 20th Serie A title

  • After a 2-1 win over their arch-rivals, AC Milan, Inter was officially crowned Serie A champions.
  • It’s the 20th time they have lifted this trophy in their history of 116 years.

During matchday 33 of the Serie A season, Inter Milan faced their neighbors in a Derby della Madonnina, “away” from home, and won with the score of 2-1.

The fiery match saw three red cards and six yellow cards shown. It also sealed Inter’s 20th Italian League trophy, being only the second team to achieve this, behind Juventus, who has a record of 36 titles.

AC Milan fans were absolutely fuming, as they were both tied for 19 titles, and the race for the next one was very serious. However, the 19-point gap between the two made it obvious who deserved it.

Another reason for fans to be angry is that they had to watch Inter jubilating on their shared field, which is known as the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium for Inter fans and San Siro for AC Milan fans.

Internazionale had already won the Italian Super Cup against Napoli. However, they were surprisingly eliminated in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia by Bologna and also in the round of 16 of the Champions League, by Atletico Madrid. Therefore, these two are the only trophies for the Italian club this season.

Lautaro Martinez (26 years old) played a crucial part in the team coached by Simone Inzaghi (48 years old). The Argentinian has 23 goals and 5 assists so far and is the current top scorer of the Serie A. The season has 4 matches left to its campaign, so Martinez could score even more.

Inzaghi’s successful transfer campaign

The Italian coach made some wise choices during last summer when he brought in the team good, experienced players that helped Inter win 2 trophies this season:

  • Benjamin Pavard (27 years old) - A World Cup winner and experienced defender who cost €30M from Bayern Munich.
  • Yann Sommer (34 years old) - The perfect replacement for Andre Onana, had 24 clean sheets and was only €6M from Bayern Munich.
  • Francesco Acerbi (35 years old) - Key defender, familiar with the Serie A, and was bought for only €4M from Lazio.
  • Marcus Thuram (25 years old) - Probably the most important transfer, came for free from Borussia Monchengladbach and had 13 goals and 13 assists.

A special celebration

After that special match, the Inter players partied long and hard in the lockers, singing and dancing to the song “Made in Romania”, which is a huge trend on most social media platforms nowadays.

In addition, their club badge now has two stars above it, each representing 10 titles. Last but not least, the party took Milano’s streets by storm, as the team organized a parade with an open-air bus after the 2-0 win against Torino.

Thousands of fans gathered with flags and scarves to chant alongside their players.
